Coming to a test is a great way to see our dogs, learn about our breeding and testing program, and determine if you would like to get a dog and become part of the action. Visitors are welcome to view the test and to attend our Saturday dinner. If you are already a member, please consider attending and volunteering too! Heartland Chapter Field Tests are held at the Mazomanie Field Test Grounds near Salk City, WI. The Heartland Chapter normally conducts a Spring test in late April and A Fall Test in early September.
Next Scheduled Test: September 6th & 7th. (8th if needed)
Thursday, September 5, is an optional training day. Young dogs that are not testing yet may participate in the training. Please contact test chair to reserve your space and birds. Use the link below to download test information and a test entry form.
Special Training Day
Start time will be 8:00 AM. On the same grounds where we hold the test at the Mazomanie Wildlife Area.
Our goals are to help each handler to be prepared for the test and help each dog to perform its best. If you’ve never tested before, it’s a great opportunity to familiarize yourself with the little details like releasing your dog on a track and for your dog to practice under test-like conditions. Although intended primarily for dogs that are testing this weekend, it’s also a great opportunity for younger dogs, so bring your pup. We want to help you with any questions and consult on areas you think your dog needs to improve.
We will have both ducks and pheasants for you to purchase. For Natural Ability dogs, we suggest ordering one pheasant or possibly two (if your dog hasn’t had much tracking experience). Intermediate dogs could use a duck and a pheasant. You must contact Test Chair, Dave Read to reserve a spot and to order your birds. He will need to know if you plan on coming to the training day and how many birds we should purchase for you.
Test Rule Booklets can be downloaded from the Progeny Testing Page.

Do you anticipate testing a dog? please note the following:
Dogs are eligible for the Natural Ability Test from the age of 6 months up until and including the day they reach 16 months of age. Dogs over age may be entered for evaluation only. Dogs are eligible for the Intermediate Hunting Dog Test from 12 to 24 months of age. Dogs over 24 months of age may be entered under the special category of Older Hunting Dog Test and will be judged more rigorously in obedience based upon their age. Dogs over 18 months of age are eligible for the Utility Field Test. Versatile hunting dogs other than Cesky Fouseks are eligible and welcome for all tests.
